Terms of Service
Last updated: October 21, 2025
TL;DR - The Simple Version
- Use our tools however you want, they're free
- We provide no warranties - use at your own risk
- We're not liable for any damages
- Don't do anything illegal or harmful
- The code will be open source soon - you'll be able to fork it
- Domain Checker is the only tool that makes external requests (to check domains)
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using Boring Developer Tools ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you don't agree with any part of these terms, please don't use our Service.
2. Description of Service
Boring Developer Tools provides a collection of free, browser-based developer utilities including but not limited to:
- JWT decoder and validator
- Base64 encoding/decoding
- URL parsing and decoding
- JSON/YAML conversion
- Cron expression evaluation
- Regular expression testing
- Domain availability checking
- And other development utilities
All tools run entirely in your browser with no server-side processing or data transmission, with one exception: the Domain Checker tool must query external DNS services to check domain availability, as browsers cannot perform DNS lookups directly.
3. Use License
What You Can Do
You are granted a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:
- Use the Service for personal or commercial purposes
- Use the Service without creating an account
- Access the Service from any device or browser
- Use the tools with any data you choose
- Share links to the Service with others
What You Can't Do
You agree not to:
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service (unless you're reading the open-source code, which is encouraged!)
- Use the Service to violate any laws or regulations
- Use the Service to process illegal content
- Attempt to overload, attack, or disrupt the Service
- Remove or modify any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
- Claim the Service as your own work
4. Open Source
We're currently cooking up something special in our private kitchen, but we're planning to open-source the entire codebase soon. When we do, you'll find it on GitHub under a permissive open-source license. (The license terms for the source code may differ from these Terms of Service and will be specified in the repository.)
Once we go public, you'll be welcome to:
- Fork the repository and make it your own
- Modify the code for your own use (go wild!)
- Contribute improvements back to the project (please do!)
- Host your own instance of the tools (privacy nerds, we see you)
- Learn from our code (or laugh at our bugs, your choice)
Until then, trust us - or check the network tab in your browser to verify our privacy claims.
5. No Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
We make no warranties that:
- The Service will meet your requirements
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- The results obtained from using the Service will be accurate or reliable
- Any errors in the Service will be corrected
While we strive to provide accurate and reliable tools, we're human and mistakes happen. Always verify critical outputs independently.
6. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM:
- Your use or inability to use the Service
- Any errors or inaccuracies in the output of our tools
- Any interruption or cessation of the Service
- Any bugs, viruses, or other harmful components
- Any decision made based on the output from our tools
In plain English: We're providing these tools for free, and while we do our best, we can't be held responsible if something goes wrong. Use the tools wisely and verify important results.
7. User Responsibilities
You are solely responsible for:
- The data you input into the tools
- How you use the output from the tools
- Ensuring your use complies with applicable laws
- Any consequences of using the Service
- Keeping your browser and system secure
8. Privacy and Data
As detailed in our Privacy Policy, we don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data. All processing happens locally in your browser.
Exception: The Domain Checker tool sends domain queries to external DNS services, but only the domain names you're checking - no personal data or tracking information.
This means:
- You are solely responsible for any data you input
- We have no record of what you do with the tools (except which domains you check via Domain Checker)
- We cannot recover or access any data you process
- Your data never leaves your device (except Domain Checker queries)
9. Intellectual Property
The Boring Developer Tools name, logo, and branding are owned by us. The source code will be open source once we make it public (as specified in the repository license when available).
You retain all rights to any data you input into or output from the Service. We claim no ownership over your content.
10. Service Modifications
We reserve the right to:
- Modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time
- Add, remove, or modify tools and features
- Change these Terms of Service
We'll try to provide notice of significant changes, but we're not obligated to do so. Since the Service is free and processes no user data, we have minimal obligations to maintain it indefinitely.
11. Third-Party Tools and Services
The Domain Checker tool interacts with third-party DNS services and domain registries to check domain availability. These queries are initiated directly from your browser and only contain the domain names you're checking.
We are not responsible for:
- The availability of third-party DNS services or domain registries
- The accuracy of domain availability data from third-party services
- Third-party terms of service or privacy policies
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any laws or regulations
- Your violation of any third-party rights
13. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
14. Dispute Resolution
If you have any concerns or disputes, please contact us first at [email protected]. We'll do our best to resolve issues amicably.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
16. Entire Agreement
These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
17. No Commercial Relationship
These Terms do not create any partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between you and us.
18. Contact Information

19. Fair Use
This is a free service provided in good faith. We ask that you:
- Use the Service reasonably and don't abuse it
- Don't attempt to overwhelm our infrastructure
- Be considerate of other users
- Report bugs and security issues responsibly
We reserve the right to block access if we detect abuse, though we generally prefer to keep things open.
